First stop, Neon Museum! Neon is second only to glitter on my list of favorite kitsch, and this place is incredible. It’s more neon sign graveyard than museum in the traditional sense, with a collection of rescued signs dating as far back as the 1930s. Behold:
Then we went to a show, which was not technically off the Strip, (but still something brand new, and I make the rules here so it counts). LE REVE. Woah. Prancing showgirls this was not. I couldn’t find a good clip to embed, so you’ll have to look at these pictures and imagine the following: water, fire, flying, acrobats, swimmers, divers, dancers, and clowns.
For our last meal of the trip, we ventured to the legendary Lotus of Siam. Tucked away in a strip mall on a quiet (read: desolate and scary as all get out) stretch of road, this place has been lauded by those in the know as the Best. Thai. Ever. Needless to say, I was excited. The verdict: It was good, but certainly not the trancendent experience my tastebuds were ready for. A case of unreasonable expectations? Perhaps.
